Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s a small collection of questions and answers about the blog. I’ll try to update it from time to time.

Q : Both Hotfile and Rapidshare have long waiting times, captchas, etc for non-premium users. It’s really painful.
A : Using a downloader software like Jdownloader takes most of your pain away. Even if you don’t have a premium account; Jdownloader automatizes the waiting periods, solves/asks the captchas, uses mirrors and don’t bother you the file server’s web site.

Q : How can I play OGG files?
A : In Windows, for Windows Media Player and other directshow based players try installing the appropriate directshow codec from http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/. For iTunes, you can try XiphQT from http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/. For Linux, most players by default support a whole bunch of formats so you shouldn’t need to do anything special.

Q : How can I burn OGG files to an audio CD?
A : Many CD burning software have plugins to do that. Just google your software and ogg together. If you’re out of luck, convert OGG to WAV and burn it that way.

Q : How can I convert OGG files to other formats?
A : There are many utilities to do that. See a comprehensive list here. One simple utility called Oggifier has been recommended by other blog users. Though beware that the conversion to another lossy format (e.g: mp3) may cause further quality loss. So if you want to convert the files to another format for your collection, lossless ones (e.g: flac, audio cd, etc) are recommended.

Q : I wanted to download the xxx album on your blog but it’s deleted. Can you upload it again?
A : Sure. Just drop a note in the comments section of the album and I’ll upload it.

Q : Hey! I asked for a re-post but you didn’t.
A : I actually don’t *post* the whole album again, instead I just update the download link of the album. So check the same album again in the archives and this time you should be able download it.

Q : I got the xxx album but the password isn’t working.
A : It’s very unlikely that the password is wrong. The password is always the same, it’s either sakalli (newer files) or sakallimusic.blogspot.com (older files). You may have left the caps lock of your keyboard on, the password is case-sensitive. Some Mac users had a similar problem with a certain version of “the unarchiver”, 1.3 is known to work. Changing the software might help. All in all, if you’re stuck; write a comment under that album, I’ll re-check the file.

Q : I got the xxx album but there seems to be a track missing in the archive.
A : If this is a multiple archives involved, make sure you unzipped both archive files. Some archiver software can have problems with accented characters, perhaps you hit a bug and the file(s) didn’t unzip. Trying another software might work. If you’re using Windows, using the rename function of WinRaR to change the troublesome character to a dash could also work. If you are sure the file is missing, write a comment under that album, I’ll re-check it.

Q : I want to know the minute you add a new album to your blog. How can I do it?
A : Twitter and RSS are both handy tools to track new posts in the blog. It simply sits in your system tray and alerts you whenever a new entry is posted. There are many great software to do it.

Q : How can I personally contact you? I don’t want the whole world to read what I write to you :)
A : Feel free to contact me via e-mail, I check it very frequently.

Q : I have/can make a better rip for an album you posted. Would you be interested?
A : Of course! I particularly don’t like below @160 CBR and generally all VBR music files. I’ll be happy to replace them with your rips.

Q : I have an album suitable for your blog. Would you be interested?
A : Yes :). Contact me and we’ll find a way for you to send me the album (if I don’t have it already).

Q : I have a music blog, can you link it from yours?
A : Of course, send the link and I’ll add your blog to the “Other Music Blogs” list in no time.

Q : I see you’ve posted xxx group’s yyy album. I don’t have their zzz album, can you post that one too?
A : If I have it — yes, if I don’t — no :). There’s no harm asking.

Q : You are doing a great job. What can I do to help?
A : Promote the blog :). You can tell your friends about it, link to it from your web site, ask other music blogs to link me, etc. Reporting dead links is also very helpful.

Q : What the heck happened to your original blog in sakallimusic.blogspot.com?
A : On Dec 20th of 2007, that blog was shutdown by Blogspot due to complaints by ProgRock Records (like many others at the same time). I couldn’t access or change a thing in it. I didn’t get to write a goodbye post or anything for that matter. The url for my old site still seems to work, but when you click any inner page, you are taken to a made up spam site. After several (responseless) mails and filling out forms to blogger support, I gave up on it and moved the blog to sakalli.blog.hr.

Q : What the heck happened to your second blog site in sakalli.blog.hr?
A : On Feb 4th of 2010, that blog was shutdown by blog.hr due to pressure from Declan Coglan Records. The url for my old site still seems to work but is redirected to a game site. I moved the blog here, hoping that third time is the charm.

Q : I thought I lost you forever! If you ever have to move your blog again, how will I find you?
A : Leave me your e-mail address. That way, I can send you an e-mail if there’s such a major change in the blog. Checking other music blogs for information might help too.
