A new beginning :)

Thanks to Mephisto’s and Marcelo’s suggestion, I moved the blog to http://sakalli.blog.hr, after nearly a month after the fall of the blogspot site.

I’d welcome your help to spread the new blog address across the Internet. Please feel free to remind your friends to update their bookmarks and ask sites you stumble upon to link this site.

I couldn’t find a way to set the date of posts earlier than my registration date. So all the posts from the old site will appear to be posted between 13-19th Jan 2008. But I do put the original dates as a footer to each post, for the historic curious.

Some comments of older posts may also be lost, sorry about that.

It’ll be at least a few days before I restore a year’s worth of blog archive. I’m still learning Croatian ;-). This may be a good time for new visitors to crawl into older posts as I post them.

What the heck happened to Sakalli?

You may be wondering just that :)

On Dec 20th of last year (2007), I got a mail from blogspot telling me that my blog is shutdown because of complaints of copyright infringement. I can’t access or change a thing in it. I didn’t get to write a goodbye post or anything for that matter. The url for my old site still seems to work, but when you click any inner page, you are taken to a made up spam site.

I continuosly mailed and filled out forms to blogspot, demanding an explanation which I didn’t get. Seeing other blogs getting a similar treatment, I finally gave up on blogspot.

So what do I plan to do? I do tirelessly want to continue blogging great music (restoring the previous blog) but I also need a solid host for my blog for that, who won’t be hindered by US laws. Alternative popular free blog sites like livejournal.com, wordpress.com, etc will eventually follow the same line, being US sites. Publishing in P2P networks isn’t an option for me, since it requires a different kind of bandwidth consumption (which isn’t feasible for me).

So I need your help to find a new host for the blog. Sweden seems to be a safe harbor, having a pirate political party. I tried to contact www.prq.se via e-mail but couldn’t get an answer. Using a telephone internationally isn’t very realistic :). Here’s what you can do :

1) Search/suggest different hosting firms in Sweden you know that can deal with English speaking customers.
2) Find an alternative contact method to www.prq.se, other than info@prq.se e-mail address and learn their hosting policies.
3) Suggest a hosting firm who you know won’t shutdown the blog at the first sign of trouble (complaint, etc). Russian perhaps?
4) Offer to host the web site yourself :). That would be swell but please research the legal implications in the country your server resides in carefully.
5) I really don’t know, any other suggestions? :)

Also, you can leave your e-mail address to me (as a comment or direct e-mail — comments including e-mail addresses won’t be published). When I start my new blog, I can mail you the new web site.

Check this site and other music blog sites for developments.
